For over a decade, we have wanted to visit the falls but it always seemed to be the inopportune moment. On this trip, we made sure to make the trek and have absolutely no regrets. It is stunningly beautiful from the base hike to the falls. When they come into view, it is surprisingly impressive - we hadn't expected them to be so high! Of course, there are warnings that should be respected (but when does that ever happen?). The hike was a novice level with some moderate inclines but nothing to cumbersome.
The best time of day to hike the trail is in the morning. The light in the morning is absolutely beautiful with shards and beams of light shining through the leaves creating a beauty only seen in dinosaur movies. The best time of year to visit the falls is in the early and mid spring when the falls are fullest.
It is easy to spend at least an hour being bewildered by the falls natural beauty. This is a wonderful place to take the family. Children frolic in the mist of the falls and parents try to get organized photos. This is a perfect outing for all ages, on two feet or four!
